Man Breaks Oyster Eating Record at Woodhouse

According to Eater SF, a man broke the record for eating the most  in one sitting by slurping down 105!  Here’s their story:

A man walked into Woodhouse Fish Co. on Market St. yesterday and, a few hours later, left a champion. Bionic oyster eater, Andrew Badr beat the reigning champ at Woodhouse by downing 105 bivalves in one sitting. The last title holder held a record of 101 consumed oysters. Chanting “plaque or puke” between slurps, Badr had a clear goal in mind: to have his name immortalized on a highly visible plaque on Woodhouse’s wall.

Badr recounts:

“The first dozen went by quickly, then I started to slow down and feel worse. The 60-72 dozen was by far the hardest. I was dizzy and kind of out of it. Then I realized I needed to drink water, and that made it easier. I found a good, comfortable rhythm for the last 30 (to hit 102 and break the record). The last three were just a bonus. After 105, I felt like I could have eaten more, but I had nothing left to prove. And I was pretty sick of oysters. [Co-owner] Tyler [McNiven] announced my victory to the restaurant, and I walked out feeling like a champion.”

Potential oyster record challengers, be advised: Tuesday is dollar oyster day at Woodhouse. It remains the best day to compete, as it is half as expensive.

Tupac Shakur Shooter Confesses

Tupac Shakur Shooter Confesses, Fingers Rap Mogul

By TheImproper, June 15th, 2011

Dexter Isaac,an associate of a hip-hop mogul James Rosemond, has confessed to shooting rapper Tupac Shakur in a Manhattan robbery, two years before the singer was murdered in Las Vegas, a crime that is still unsolved.

The Tupac shooting, from which he recovered, heightened tensions between East Coast and West Coast rappers and may have led to a retaliatory shooting in which rapper Christopher Wallace, also known as Biggie Smalls, was gunned down.

“I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Rosemond],” Isaac said from prison in a statement to the Web site AllHipHop.

“I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac and Biggie’s] mothers some closure,” he said.

Rosemond, also known as Jimmie Henchman, heads Czar Entertainment, which manages The Game, Sean Kingston and other artists.

Isaac has been in prison for 13 years on a life sentence, and kept his secret until Rosemond named him a government informant in a lengthy statement in which he defended himself and professed his innocence.

That prompted Isaac to come forward on his own.

“In 1994, James Rosemond hired me to rob 2Pac Shakur at the Quad Studio, he said in the AllHipHop statement.

“He gave me $2,500, plus all the jewelry I took, except for one ring, which he wanted for himself. It was the biggest of the two diamond rings that we took.

“He said he wanted to put the stone in a new setting for his girlfriend at the time, Cynthia Ried. I still have as proof the chain that we took that night in the robbery.”

Isaac also suggested, without going into detail, that he had information on the death of Wallace and Shakur, but said he would do so “at a different time.”

He also named rap impresario Sean Combs, also known as “Diddy” and before that “Puff Daddy” or “Puffy,” suggesting he was complicit in the shootings, but offered no further details.

“Jimmy, you and Puffy like to come off all innocent-like, but as the saying goes: You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”

On Sep. 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in the Las Vegas by two assailants and died six days later.

In Nov. 1994, the rapper was shot five times and robbed after entering the lobby of Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan.

He would later accuse Combs, Andre Harrell, and Wallace for the attack.

Wallace was gunned down on March 9, 1997 by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. A rogue police officer has since been implicated in the shooting.

His shooting was believed to be in retaliation, but the case also remains unsolved.

5 Ways to Celebrate Tillamook Sandwich Week

This week, June 11-18, is Tillamook Sandwich Week.  I know, why is it not already on your calendar?!  To celebrate, Tillamook is hosting its Loaf Love Tour and lucky for us, 5 restaurants in the Bay Area are partaking in it.  Here’s the lowdown according to SF Weekly:

The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen
Tillamook signature chef Heidi Gibson is featuring the Mac ‘n’ Cheese Grilled Cheese ($8). In traditional American fashion, they vow to use a different mac ‘n’ cheese each day. According to Heidi, “By [next] Saturday, things should get interesting.” If you want to know ahead of time, check the Twitter feed.

Ironside
Ironside will offer Tillamook Monterey Jack on its Northern Bison burger and Pacific Pastures grass-fed beefburger. (Market price $15.)

Nickies
Nickies is melting a crispy chicken sandwich with a trio of Tillamook Monterey Jack, medium cheddar, and sharp cheddar, served with a side of fresh-cut fries or bleu slaw ($9.50).

Globe
Chef Joseph created a bacon and tomato sandwich featuring melted Tillamook medium cheddar on grilled sourdough.

Brown Sugar Kitchen
Owner and chef Tanya Holland created a smoked vegetable muffaletta topped with Tillamook Monterey Jack.

Food Truck Crush

Oyster Po' Boy

On Friday, I was finally able to make it out to Food Truck Crush and check out everything they have to offer.  The weather was warm so I knew it would be a perfect day for a food truck crawl. Located right near where you board the Larkspur Ferry, Food Truck Crush offers a fun, relaxed environment with live music that is also kid friendly.

I started with the mini oyster po-boy with bacon from Suzie Q’s Lunchbox, who serves Cajun-inspired food.  I liked the addition of the bacon to the po-boy.  A little more oyster and less breading would make the sandwich perfect.

Mac & Cheese Spring Rolls

Next up was 3-Sum Eats.  The Mac & Cheese Spring Rolls speak for themselves. What upped the filthiness factor was the fondue dipping sauce for them.  Delightful!  Their deviled eggs were creamy and very well seasoned.

From Curry Up Now I got the Keema Kathis which is like an Indian chalupa.  It was very flavorful but definitely messy so make sure to eat it out of the bag, similar to how you drink a 40 (don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about).

Curry Up Now

Next up was The Rib Whip.  The ribs were very succulent and came right off the bone.  The mac & cheese was very cheesy and had a smoky taste to it that I enjoyed.  Since there was a Giant’s home game that evening and knowing there would be a ton of Giant’s fans catching the ferry to the game, Kara’s Cupcakes had Giant’s cupcakes alongside their standard delicious flavors like Passion Fruit, Strawberry and Chocolate Velvet.

Partial Line-up

And that’s a quick recap of my 1st Food Truck Crush experience.  Yes, my pictures could’ve been better but one only has so much patience to perfect a picture when there is delicious food in front of me.  I will definitely be back for another food truck crawl.  Hats off to Jeremy Zajonc and Jason Holthe for bringing the food truck craze to Marin, every Friday from 5-8 at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal.  It is utterly undeniable- I have a Food Truck Crush.
