Vinny Leaving the Jersey Shore?

After days of reported drama between Vinny Guadagnino and his “Jersey Shore” housemates, he may have finally made up his mind on whether he’s staying in the Seaside Heights house.

TMZ reports that Guadagnino left the house late Friday after an argument. Reportedly, he caught a cab to Staten Island with no desire to return to shooting.

His departure follows news that the reality show star left the house earlier last week complaining of homesickness.

A statement from MTV said, “We don’t comment on series while they are in production but viewers can be assured they will have answers when Season 5 premieres.”

The “Jersey Shore” crew had very little free time between returning to the United States after shooting Season 4 in Italy before production resumed in Seaside Heights.

Baby daddy drama!

Supermodel Linda Evangelista conceived her son withSalma Hayek‘s husband, the New York Post reports. According to the paper, the Manhattan magistrate’s court action confirms that French businessman Francois-Henri Pinault is the father of Evangelista’s 4-year-old son, Augustin James.

Pinault, 49, and Hayek, 44, welcomed daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault in September 2007. The duo later wed on Valentine’s Day 2009 in Paris. Pinault has two other children from a previous marriage.

The New York Post claims that Evangelista and Pinault conceived their son in early 2006, when Pinault was separated from Hayek. The actress and Pinault broke up again in July 2008 but ultimately reconciled.

DNA Testing to Get the Scoop on Poop

(CNN) — A New Hampshire apartment complex is mandating that residents submit pet DNA samples.

Why? To check if any of them are abandoning their dogs’ waste on the property.

“Ninety-eight percent do what they’re suppose to do,” property manager Debbie Violette said of her residents with dogs, “but there are some that don’t and you don’t know who that is. That’d be pretty foolish if they did that right in front of me.”

Timberwood Commons in Lebanon, New Hampshire, says it is among a growing number of apartment complexes implementing PooPrints.

That’s a program that matches samples of unclaimed dog waste to DNA collected through pets’ mandatory mouth swabs in the hope of imposing greater responsibility among pet owners.

Violette says her violators will first receive a warning if caught, paying a $60 fee to cover the DNA costs. However, if it happens again, it’s a lease violation and the offender will be forced to live somewhere else.

“They have a choice to rent here or not. If you live in that community you have to live by those rules and regulations,” Violette said. “It’s a privilege.”

She said she got the idea from a residential community in Boston. Eric Mayer, director of franchise development with BioPet Vet Lab, says the program is currently assisting rental complexes in multiple states, with increasing interest as far away as Canada and Germany.

The tests bought through PooPrints, a subsidiary of BioPet Vet Lab in Knoxville, Tennessee, match the DNA already captured to a sample of each pet’s waste. Poop that isn’t scooped can then be analyzed.

According to Mayer, apartment complexes that impose a pet deposit or fee on residents could potentially cover the testing costs incurred with the initial DNA registration. The cost of the DNA analysis each time a sample is tested could theoretically be paid through a fee on convicted freeloaders.

It’s a service Violette admits to be potentially costly, but with more than 30 dogs on her property, some as large as a St. Bernard, “it’s really not about the money for us,” she said, “it’s about having a nice place to live.”

And reaction has been positive, she said.

“I did have one resident that thought it was completely over the top, who’s not a pet owner,” Violette said. But after considering the possibility of stepping in a mess he himself didn’t leave behind, “he changed his mind,” she said.

Violette sees long-term benefits in the PooPrints system, saying it could reunite lost pets and owners, especially in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

Mayer says he remains focused on both environmental and human health benefits through the system.

“It’s a huge problem with growing environmental impact,” Mayer said of the waste. The PooPrints website estimates a single pet creates 276 pounds of waste per year. “We want people to be responsible and not leave things behind. Down the drain means it’s going into your lakes, rivers and streams,” he added.

Salito’s in Sausalito

The former Paradise Bay (1200 Bridgeway) in Sausalito has been bought by Jerry Dal Bozzo, Dante Serafina and Andrea Froncillo, the trio that owns and operates Boboquivari’s, Calzone’s, Crab House, Franciscan Crab Restaurant, The Dead Fish, and the Stinking Rose. The restaurant, which has getting a slight makeover, will be turned into Salito’s, a crab and primerib house. Yes, please! This restaurant has a huge deck that seats 100 and used to have an outdoor bar which I loved.  Not sure if they kept it or not.

As with all the other restaurants, Andrea Froncillo will continue to be the executive chef.  Although the restaurant still says Paradise Bay, they have already switched the menu over to the new Salito’s menu. And being the ninja that I am, I took pics of the menu so I can share it with you, as they have no website yet.  Menu is similar to what they offer at their Franciscan Crab Restaurant.  First gripe…who charges for bread?!  Lame!  Nevertheless, I am excited to try it and will write about it as soon as I do!

The highlight of San Francisco’s July 4 celebration is the annual mega fireworks show at the waterfront. At 9:30 pm, fireworks are set off from the foot of the Municipal Pier and from barges north of Pier 39. Best places to watch: Aquatic Park (Jefferson and Hyde streets), the Cannery, Ghirardelli Square, other waterfront spots at Fisherman’s Wharf and Coit Tower. Yes, they’re all touristy and you probably avoid them as much as you do meter maids, but you might find July 4 is the occasion for a worthwhile exception. Or go off-shore: See below for boats that will take you out and park in the Bay during the splashy show.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has July 4 traffic and public transportation information online.
